Youth Essay Contest Awards Ceremony

The winners of Lodi Funeral Home's inaugural Youth Essay Contest will be recognized in a special awards ceremony at 6 p.m. Friday, May 27, at the funeral home. Titled "The True Meaning of Memorial Day," each essay submission was reviewed by a committee that selected the six winners who will share cash prizes totaling $1,600. All San Joaquin County area middle and high school students were invited to participate, and submissions were accepted at the funeral from through the entire month of April. The contest's purpose was to inspire youths in our community to learn more about this important holiday.

Youth Essay Contest

Open to all San Joaquin County area middle and high school students, we hope our Memorial Day Youth Essay Contest will inspire young people in our community to learn more about the true meaning of this special day. Final judging and selection of winners will be made by a committee selected by Lodi Community Outreach. Decisions of judges are final. Results will be announced at the 2016 Essay Contest Awards Ceremony at Lodi Funeral Home, 725 South Fairmont Ave, Lodi, CA 95240. Light of Hope Community Candlelight Remembrance

Please join us for the Light of Hope Community Candlelight Remembrance at 6 p.m. Friday, December 11, 2015 inside our chapel at 725 S. Fairmont Avenue. This event is an opportunity for the community to come together and honor their loved ones. It is a beautiful and moving event that is interactive for everybody. The lighting of candles for loved ones is an impactful, visual ceremony that leaves everyone feeling fulfilled. The ceremony provides the proper balance of grief and celebration of a loved one’s memory. Our desire is that you will receive comfort, hope and healing by attending our Light of Hope Community Candlelight Remembrance. Register your attendance by Friday, December 4, 2015. Memorial Day Service

Please join us this Memorial Day as we honor our fallen heroes at 9 a.m. Monday, May 25, 2015 at Lodi Memorial Cemetery, 5750 E. Pine Street. Remembrance is an important part of what we do at Lodi Funeral Home, so we encourage you to make it part of your Memorial Day weekend. The community is invited to this special event that will feature:

  • Pancake Breakfast
  • Memorial Tribute Service
  • Military Honors
  • Avenue of Flags

The first Memorial Day ceremony was observed on May 30, 1868, when flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery. Today, these Memorial Day ceremonies bring veterans, families, and communities together, and continue to prove that the bond formed in military service spans generations.

Flag Display

Each Independence Day, 20 full-size American flags are installed outside Lodi Funeral Home by volunteers from area Veteran organizations. The display will be up 8 a.m. on Thursday, July 4, until approximately 6 p.m., weather permitting. The flags are also flown at the funeral home for other patriotic holidays, such as Memorial Day and Veterans Day, and during military funerals with a flag-draped casket and full military honors.
